Encounter With a Tree
ENCOUNTER WITH A TREE I traveled down the road of life just doing what I pleased; I didn't care what others thought about my life of ease. And though I was taught right from wrong, for me it was my choice To go against the will of God, not listen to His voice. And so in business I worked hard, succeeding in my task, And going places in the world and doing what it asked. I put in long hours many days, and worked hard every week, The favor of those I worked for was all I chose to seek. Yet, God who I'd not listened to was waiting still for me And got my rapt attention through an encounter with a tree. As I was speeding down a road, I somehow lost control And soon the jaws of death were there to swallow up my soul. I looked up to the Lord above and said, “If You'll spare me, I'll serve You with my whole life now and live only for Thee.” Well, that was thirty and some years ago, and though I've faced some trials, I don't regret a day of it or any of its miles. I'm glad God brought me face to face with truth that day to see When on that road I lost control in an encounter with a tree. No ordinary tree it was, as many that there grew, But a reminder of the one so far away I knew Where one died once and shed His blood that sinners might go free If just by faith they'd make that trip, an encounter with that tree. Yes, I had two encounters then, on that lonely road that day And came away a man now changed to serve the Lord and pray. I never will regret the day God got a hold of me On that road on that lonely night in an encounter with a tree. --Dedicated to Rev. Rick Loew, based on his personal testiomy.
