Sipping Iced Tea With Jesus
While burning in the shade, talking to my hangover. A man in a tie-dyed robe came up to me, introduced himself as Jesus. I thought he was just some freak. Until he pulled a spray of roses from a scar above his cheek. Then sang a medley of angelic hymns. I croaked out an awkward prayer. Offered a glass of iced tea and wrought iron chair. He is providing the manna of his spirit- We chatted about poverty, nature and endless wars. His addiction to love and forgiveness. Mine to selfishness and pain. What it all meant-what were the stakes. Then inside the circle of a thorny crown, he showed a film of our lives-side by side. Showing flashes of my folly-his pristine sacrifice- With a rose petal he dried the tears from my eyes. and said "Dearest one there's no need to cry- there's still plenty of time-to turn things around. To plant the mustard seed-have faith in me". While holding hands we said our farewells, then he vanished into the wishing well of my mind.
