Where My Thoughts Took Me Today
Where My Thoughts Took Me Today 2/17/2018 Tom Wright Lying supine in bed and deprived of sleep, I face another morning my mind most blank. Adverse thoughts disrupt my counting sheep, And I feel as if forced to walk the gangplank. Mind drifts back to those showing concern, There’s one who stands at my door each day. My refusal never seems to delay their return, Persistence is the key to getting their way. Too lazy to work to support their need, They float through life on another’s sweat. They beg, borrow, steal, and even plead, To take from another what they can get. Twice, my heart medication has been lifted, By those voicing concern for my welfare; From the straight and narrow they’ve drifted, And show no remorse or outward despair. Living off SNAPS and government assistance, An entitlement gift from an array of tricks; A steady job offer is often met with resistance, They don’t want a job, just another daily fix.
