Homeless
People and animals are helpless on the street of any city, regarded as worthless, society just passes them by, empty and hollow, . . . they fall into a black abyss of nothingness. Today, I saw a man with a kitten, and I ran to the store for food, even though I had only a little money, I did not want to just walk by . . . It touched my heart that this man with nothing still had compassion. Running back with food for the man and some cat food, I was breathless . . . then inside, I was weeping when the spot they had been in was empty. They were gone . . . turning in circles, I searched for them, but they were lost in a deep chasm, in some doorway probably, crouched and starving. Oh, I should have told him to stay. . . and then, I spotted them and walked fast in that direction, now I stroke the thin little ginger one as she purrs eating happily, and the man smiles his thanks to me . . . But in my heart . . . I fear for them but at least now they have, each other. _________________________________ April 8, 2016 Poetry/Free Verse/Homeless Copyright Protected, ID 16-1104-527-0 All Rights Reserved.
