An Unlikely Encounter
There was once a young woman named Dawn. She could be compared to Scrooge and the Grinch. Why? You might be wondering. Because she hated and loathed everything that Christmas stood for. She had nothing to be happy, joyful or thankful about. She was raised by a single mother who was a alcoholic and she never knew her dad. As terrible as her mother was, she was all that Dawn had. She died on Christmas Eve when Dawn was just eighteen. Dawn was very smart and she excelled in school and was given a full scholarship. She is studied to be a family counselor to help young orphans like herself. She was deep in her thoughts when her coworker Paul invited her to the annual Christmas dance. “ Hi Dawn, how are you?” “ Hey Paul, I’m well. How are you?” “ I am well too. I can't complain. I was wondering will you be my date for the annual Christmas dance?” Dawn was speechless because she abhorred everything about Christmas but she was secretly in love with Paul. “ Paul I am flattered but you know I don't do Christmas.” “ I know but I thought I could possibly change your mind.” “ If you would have asked me anywhere else my answer would have been yes.” Paul’s heart skipped a beat because he had be in love with Dawn for the last two years. “ In that case can I take you to dinner tomorrow?” “ Yes. Where are you taking me?” “ I can't tell you that, it’s a surprise.” “ What should I wear?” “You can wear anything you wish. You always seem to look nice in whatever you put on.” And with those words he turned around and exited the door. Paul was a good cook. He wanted to cook her something amazing. Meanwhile Dawn was on her way home and she heard carolers singing and she wanted shout from the top her lungs to tell them to be quiet. But although she hated the season she was not rude. The was an older gentlemen the crowd passing out tracks and telling folk about the birth of Jesus. He walked up to Dawn and held out a track and said “ young lady do you know that Jesus is reason for the season?” “ Sir I don't mean to be rude but can you please get out of my face.” “ I will do as you ask but can I pray for you?” “ No sir I have know use for prayer or this Jesus you talk about.” “ I hear much pain in your voice and sadness in your eyes. Have a nice day young lady I will be praying for you?” “ How can you be so nice when I was so rude to you?” “ Do you have a minute to talk and I will answer your question?” Dawn wanted to say no but for some reason she couldn't.” “ I don't why but okay.” They went to a local Starbucks nearby. “ My name is Todd Daniels by the way.” “ Dawn Stevens”. “ You asked my me why I was nice to you, Let's get to then. What do you prefer I call you? Ms.Stevens or Dawn?” “ Dawn is fine” To Be Continued 12-1-18 Alexis Y. *I wanted to write a Christmas story for the season but my muse got carried away. Enjoy:-) Alexis
