Dream Within a Dream Redone
though brain cancer does not allow for the singing of poetry no miraculous whispers of life no light rises shinning from the sky yet I have read Poe’s poetry and i agree it seems that indeed life and death are like a “ dream within a dream” his words written in pen and ink of raven’s black while sitting late at night as cancer of the brain attacks dark and silent then bringing images and sparks talks with oncologists mention a few months or few years nothing can be sure with a cancer-kill radiation chemo cure though early or later a vision will come with a deepening sleep a headache’s cry may come with dark whimsical images seen mythical life and death again are indeed “a dream within a dream” possibly dark nightmarish doom might be amidst empty night or there might be light beams rising on the mountains of the moon doctors with years experience with radiation, chemo, and dyes have me lie in a lab with the tap tap tapping in a coffin like MRI the talks with doctors and nurses wrap me in warm sheets help me sleep while those deformed cells die -- healthy living ones as well, all sending signals electric currents from a faraway crystalline beach like a Poe’s poem all that surrounds me is like “a dream within a dream’ unknown unseen and out of reach.
