10-56
10-56 It’s the part of the job they warn you about But they can never really train you for it Never really prepare you for what you see when you duck under the yellow tape the first time you are called to the scene The body lying there in the hard white pavement As the moonlight reflects off the blood on the stained brick walls Glaring in my eyes like it too wishes to block this gruesome scene from my vision I lean down and see the dullen blue eyes Her cheeks are wet from tears she must have wept long before anyone had found her Her fingers curled like she tried to reach out for assistance even as she left this world Her blue button up jacket’s sleeves have turned purple A artistic rendering of the girls sorrows The ally is wreaked with movement Reporters are pushed back as they frantically snap pictures of the girls placid face Officers shout orders and rush about Creating a tornado of chaos where me and this girl sit in the eye For a moment I remain staring at the young girl lying in the ally Two souls thrown together in the whirlwind of life This nameless suffering child and I Two members in a team neither wished to join I could be like this girl And run away from my part in this play Perhaps it would be better in the audience Harmlessly spectating the show After a moment I stand and join my fellow officers And leave the lost girl on the ground Not everyone was built to play this game Not this girl and perhaps not I But I was the one who was willing to try
