The Summer of Love
Hot tar slickly melted on the road, Hedgerows died, browned in the drought, Sizzle of egg frying on the sidewalk, I felt my heart was burning out. Blue china skies, polished and glazed, Jet trails, silver vapour scars, Mercurial sweat trickled down the spine, Young girls wishing on the stars. Cold beer, shiver-sipped in the veil of dusk, Moonlight shone platinum through the trees, Cat’s eyes smoking in the white lines And the victim of love fell to his knees. White sun sinking in a burgundy haze, Hose pipes splitting from the heat, Brown eyes probing for my soul, Young heart rising in defeat. Heartbeats surging in the sultry dark, Two mouths merging in the shade, Honeycombs dripping on twisting tongues, Soft lips sweet as cherryade. Daylight spreading in the brumous field, Young lust cooling in the light, And cried that nothing could replace Innocence lost in the night.
