The Day I Met 'Aging'
Every mortal blessed with a long life has a date with destiny. The destiny of which I speak is not our final destiny, but one that tends to come gradually and subtly. Adjustments, yes, but cannot be avoid. It appears that I never saw it coming, and it never entered my mind. When I recognized its arrival, its identity was undeniable. And like it or not, it appears I have little say, and it has come to stay. My best guess would put me at around 46 years of age when I recognized its arrival. That is when I first discovered that the sands of time in the hourglass was "speeding", and there was no patrolman anywhere in sight to issue a citation. I needed to locate an address and neither my vehicle nor phone was equipped with a GPS. So I sat at the kitchen table with a McNally Map as I usually do, and to my amazement and most unpleasant surprise, I could not SEE clearly. There was no doubt about the fact that an unannounced and unwelcomed creature had invaded my sensory world. That was when I realized that the aging bug had struck. I was thankful that 'the aging bug invaders' did not attack all my senses at the same time. However, there would be no turning back the clock. So I bought reading glasses, and in no time at all, I was again TOUCHED by a more pleasant reality. And when my unforgetting wife says, "Honey, we have to talk", I am grateful that I can HEAR her loud and clear. When she bakes, barbecues ribs, or fries chicken, the AROMAS and TASTE are simply out of this world. And I say to myself, "One of the greatest days of my life and one I will never forget is the day I met my wife; but the day I wish most to forget is the day I met Aging". 081718PoetrySoupContest, Remembering What You Want To Forget, Kim Rodrigues
