When I returned to college after a twenty-five year hiatus, A math teacher discovered that I had forgotten all of it. Everything was gone. The xs and ys and parenthesis were an anomolly to me. She was kind, and patient. She re-taught me from ground zero, amazed that I had lost every memory of math probably thanks to a less-than kind or understanding math teacher. That was twenty-three years ago. I am pretty sure if I had to understand math again today, I would have to start at third grade level, page one.
