Iou
He wrote a novel, with just 3 letters, on his headstone A novel, that was different, to everyone Timeless, yet eternally grateful He left thanks, for all those he loved Just below, 2 dates, and his name Sat the letters, for all those, who came Once read, they wrote, their stories And no one, ever left the same Engraved in the letters, that spoke volumes Was his final goodbye etched with truth He could never repay, all the love that they'd gave So there sat his I.O.U. I.O.U. for standing beside me Through the hard times, I'd brought on myself Had it not been, for your love, in this life I would have never put the bottle down I.O.U. for believing in me When I never believed in myself You gave me, the inspiration When all I had was doubt I.O.U. for each breath that I took My family, wife, and son Please take me in Your arms once again Till I can meet them one by one I'm sorry for the problems And any hell that I put you through You know I loved you, so I chose to leave A simple I.O.U. As they'd headed back home Each found that they'd wrote Their very own personal I love you note And it was all there from just a simple I.O.U. He had to reach deep inside Swallow all of his pride To leave those three letters, in hopes they'd describe What he meant to say to all With his last I.O.U
