At This Point In My Life
Oh, what can I say, this boy's well past his prime! And at seventy-five, it is clear now that I'm In decline, and not nearly as strong as I was! Mortal man's not equipped to critique this life's laws, Not a question of rules disabused, for by hook Or by crook, seems most plans don't mean squat that men cook. Just do what you can (good's avoiding a crash!), And be kind to yourself, just how vital's a splash? Is it luck to find people you care for in time? A pen, notebook, a desk, it seems I've got a rhyme! In the comfort of home, I make friends now at play, And I'm thrilled when a few of them like what I say! I've found after surgery life is a grind, Anesthesia's blessing's a poison I find, Puts you off of your game, saves your life but assures You'll have slower recovery; your life though endures. But the toughest life challenge is friends break your heart, When departures come early, it tears me apart. To make time my friend is my plan for today, So, I manage my risks and remember to play, But I don't fear death much; it's like sleep any night, If I wake, hope I'm loved, if just dead that's alright. Grace is real! That's my faith (though I've doubts too you see.) But my God knows the answers, and questions are me! Brian Johnston June 2nd, 2018
