The Elegy In a Man's Throat
Where take I this little fortune Upon the measures of my obligations To fight my self problematic battle and cater for and feed my little nation Though the sun wakes to find me alive but only to add more to my daily cries Silently do I endure this pains that leaves sorrow upon my heart a stain How hard on this ocean that I may float with the elegy in a mans throat O death , O life so sweet so bitter O children , O wife upon my heavy shoulders Where take I this little wealth of mine That I shall provide for my daughters and sons for everyday I wake with jars devoid of wine as the morning accost me with the ugly sun Long have I lived to wake with tears with poverty and little fares It's bitterness to wake with such shame that made each day seems the same Where beneath this heaven can I cope With the elegy in a mans throat O death , O life so sweet so bitter O children , O wife upon my heavy shoulders
