The Wages of War
The Wages of War Sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust Cannot recall a time it played a role To create all crisp army uniforms And send off all young warriors to their death When they had died more hours to sew Not know their names just the quantity cost Lost was the cause just a bottom line theme for years to come and the end of all dreams The war years seem like only yesterday I greedily persued my fruitless task My wealth had grown as well as my girth Did not take note of those warring times but I lost two brothers and Uncle Jermaine Then my health had waned as well as my brain Forgetting the heroes who died in vain I lived in a vacuum and lost the spark The candle sputtered, spent and all was dark One, Nine, and Sixteen Contest Sponsored by Viv Wigley April26, 2018
