Marlene
Way, way back in 1974, When I was just a teen Three friends and I went to this place I'm sure you never seen We all went on a camping trip Two miles in the woods We packed our gear, our fishing poles And all our other goods This place in Pennsylvania, Has a gorgeous waterfall This story's true I'm telling you... So here's what I recall We were standing in our underwear Bathing in the river The water was so darn cold My lips began to shiver We were so deep into the woods; We never would be found But you won't believe what we saw When we turned around Strolling down the mountain And bringing all their gear Were four girls who saw us all In our underwear All the girls were our age And one was VERY fine I told my friends to all- "BACK OFF" For that one there, was mine As the hours passed, I kissed that girl Yep, she had fallen for me So I took my knife and I carved our names In this big old tree Forty years later I went back To see what I would find To my surprise there was that tree And the names I left behind FYI: Although I only spent a weekend with this girl that I met over 40 years ago, for some reason I'll never forget her name. "Marlene" This was in Bushkill Falls, Pa. I was 16 years old and believe it or not back in the day I thumbed it there. From NJ where I lived it was a two Hour car ride. It took us twelve hours by thumb. Most Original Poetry Contest Sponsor: Juliet Legion
