The Real Me
I’m just a character in your love affair You molded me until I was what you wanted You did it over a number of years One day I finally needed to know about the real me And how much of this change I was willing to accept I found myself lost and confused I couldn’t remember who I had been I still can’t remember who I was Who I want to be and what I want out of life All I know is that I’m not finding it here In this relationship with you The fact is this relationship is satisfying you And this deep void in me I can no longer ignore I’m just not satisfied with the me I’ve become The truth is it repulses me The real me needs to feel alive To give and receive a hundred percent I need fulfillment out of life I can no longer play our charade I need to go out on my own Rediscover myself, the person I want to become All these years I thought I could play along But time has come for me to break free Of the borders you set for me The real me can’t need someone Who doesn’t want me for all of who I can be AP: 2nd place 2020 Posted on March 4, 2018
