Hungry Hollow
Down in Hungry Hollow there's a winding road to follow, filled with trails of stings and nettles lit by black eyed susan petals Down this road you'll kick the dust and breathe the roots of rotten rust Shine the pebbles with your shoes and learn to sing the "Hollow Blues" Whistle through your two front teeth the clouds, the sky, within your reach Apples fall and butterflies drink the nectar from their skin warm pink They follow you down to say hello and flutter before you as you go The road narrows down into Swallow Gorge where the fish jump your line as you reach the shore and the water turns to green to hide it's tangled cars sunk to occupy new life underneath the shooting stars Proud red branches from Old Man Tree beckon out to you to swing on their ropes in a high diving show which ends in a belly flop brew All the world claps in the flapping of arms turning frozen cobalt blue as you shout to the sky and barrel through a summersault or two You tent in Hungry Hollow, you press to feel your pulse as the air untainted by outward appearances has it's famed results You leave with the clothes on your back and the soles of your feet stained tar black You swallow your tears, your heart sunken hollow You've gorged nature dry, but you'll be hungry tomorrow...
