Vengeance
Quietly, at night, he descends in the cavern Keeping his hand, tightly upon his sword Squinting to see what may lie before him Keeping careful to not utter a word. He is on a quest, a personal vendetta, This dragon had taken his brother’s life Left at home, were his children, young and hopeful And the remains of his once, adoring wife. The dragon will pay for the evil he masters Demon, within the cave, will truly be slayed The man, with the sword and a heart full of hatred Will one day be thankful for this vow that he made Now, as he approaches, a light in the distance A fire of Hell, it seems, straight from the ground Careful to not arouse, the demon who slumbers Careful to sneak close, without making a sound. A rock, oh, the foot, had kicked down the cavern Awakening evil, in its eyes, fury and rage The two, face to face, respect, but with hatred Sword now is drawn and a war now is raged. With quickness, he ran, stalagmite, a cover Ducked for a moment, to gather his thoughts Yes, if he runs, with shield as a cover The sword, he could use to plunge in its throat. So, off went the man, but really a boy, Sixteen, with so much life yet to live Off to make claim to a victory he needed To slay the dragon, he would never forgive. The battle ensued, man and dragon, A moment of fury. He prayed to the Lord. Being smaller and faster, he got up on under And into the neck, he thrust in his sword. Diminishing fire, the dragon lay wasted, Dying and trying to take its last breath. Standing, though tired, the man watches on As life is now fading, its life now bereft.
