The Storm
Changes in the feel of the air on my skin, Light breezes grow in strength. The sky darkens, slowly changes in hue. Sound in the distance, a deep rumble. Wind picks up, last falls leaves begin to tumble. Blowing wind, the tree branches bend Leaves turn onto themselves and fold. Lightning flashes, thunder grows more bold. Smell of ozone on the wind, a storm begins. I watch from my window, I'll stay till the end. Raindrops at first soft and gentle Begin to come in earnest, banging on the roof Pounding onto the summer dried earth. Making a drumbeat, static-like sound in my ears Washing down the dust of summer's heat. Thunder reminds me of a dogs deep-throated growl Or your stomach rumbling, when far too long empty. Light splits the clouds, contacts earth, repeats. Even though the night sky is black, Shadows of storm clouds meet and merge above. The drumbeats of the rains slowly eases, Fitful anger of the Gods appeased. Trees stretch their limbs, still standing tall. Lightning ceases, thunder quiets, rain no longer falls. Skin tingling, storm ending I breathe.
