Memory Monsters
Her lips Bleed Nightmares In the Morning, Spill over her- She can’t even Escape In her dreams. She sleeps In a wonderland Gone wrong, Lead poisoned From her Night-cap… Sleep is her Runaway Child, The one she Lost In the Fire, Tortured And Torturous. In her mind, She watches her Family Die, One by one- But she doesn’t Take her exit too Into the flames- She Stitches Her mouth closed Instead. Such is the Pervasive Power of Silence. Her mind is a Place of Metamorphosis, Monsters Are birthed here. They crawl out of Her dark Corners, Find their way To the light And grow stronger By it- You can see them Flash Behind her Irises. Memories do Not like to be Forgotten, Especially The bad ones- Memory Monsters Do not fade Away. She locks them up, Gives their cages Keys And hides them- But Triggers Are like a Shotgun Through her Recesses And release the Beasts, Freezing her like a Deer in Headlights, Ravaging her Until she can Control them Again. Someday She’ll Win the fight, Her demons won’t Haunt at night- But, Until then, Her lips will pray For a heaven That won’t take her Back, And her morning Will spill Nightmares Over her That she’ll Wish She could Forget.
