Ode De Purge
Not too long ago I had a beautiful friend She had reached her wits end, found herself at the road that bends been in a downward spiral amidst the storm of life for what seemed like quite awhile Met a fellow along Liquor Lane During horrendous financial strain seeking to drown her insidious pain A situation with nothing to gain cemented their lovers tortured chain Two twisted, indentured souls witnessing life as it unfolds Lost their precious previous goals strayed from preconceived molds searching for something to hold A glimpse of warmth against the cold Their American dream had been ransomed Despite the fact that they had stood bold Oh my painful choice of purge embedded in my dirge will forever be simple, redemptive Grace from Trinity to thee After the global financial crash there was no secret hidden stash All of their dreams had turned to trash How does one rise from smoldering ash Bewildered and downtrodden sipping their sour mash All the time wondering where is ALL the cash Insidiously the answer they sought permeated all of their process of thought how will they pull it off without getting caught The longer they sat there and drank Their answer, it appeared, was robbing a bank Convinced, The Mr. Madoffs in the prison tank Were cetainly responsible for their dreams that sank Their future looking so miserably blank Why should they have to walk the pirate plank Oh my painful choice of purge embedded in my dirge will forever be simple, redemptive Grace from Trinity to thee In that instant a decision was reached The Beast Unleashed, no need for a priest after all, why should only the wealthy feast Their burdens too required release And so with a POPULAR vote of two It was decided what they would do Upon reflection, It eerily mimicked the last election Last week I bought a flower basket Gingerly placed it on my daughters casket We sang songs of dirge alongside the various clergy I remembered the baptismal promise of her birth as I silently sprinkled the earth I was told with her last breath My daughter graciously accepted her death Oh my painful choice of purge embedded in my dirge will forever be simple, redemptive Grace from Trinity to thee
