Now Dream
I was crawling through a mystery field. All around, there were dreams standing. Unguarded, in my way. They had crawled out of my night eyes. Yet they could see nothing themselves. I was following all of their whisperings. Voices I could not hear or understand. Like a tide that I could follow to the shore. It led me to the edge of the field. There, I crossed a bridge made from rejected ideals. Some that I thought up myself. I know I will never go back again. (I never went back again.) I believe the bridge will crumble after me. Though I've no wish to stay and see. But now I heard the screams from the field. "What will become of us? No on else sees us!" Those dreams call but I am leaving them. Somehow I see them gesture uselessly at nothing. Though I am not looking at them. And then I say without actually speaking, "Your actions are fruitless. I can never get back again to that field of purposes I cannot understand." They all stand in a single instant as if to rebel. Defiantly they evolve into creatures of their own kind. Somehow I think it is I who is left behind.
