Loving In the Rain
LOVING IN THE RAIN Gusting hollow sound of rain on big leaves Me wishing for more Dripping drops on bedroom pane Starting to pour, pour Into my memories Cascading spray from his wheel As a bell with a watery peal Whoosh of syncopation Rhythmic thrumming on windshields She has to wait to cross, wet with laughter Spume in a puddle after Tyre parts it like the Red Sea Glistening road turns green then yellow Their shelter is the park’s heavy rain Lovers’ privacy foolproof No unwanted drop-ins, only the drops in roof Rain pours out my past in generous drafts Misted windows hide the miserly world outside Street swishes in reply as drops kiss the ground It’s my face’s baptism Immersing me in the happy past Smell of vegetation after downpour Gusts invite me as guests Eyes tight squeezed to hold the flow of it I wait, turn, and face the wet directly. ....................................................... NOTE Some people are happiest in the sun, or heat, or even snow's whiteness...probably because it reminds them of happiest moments in childhood or youth. For me, I am happiest in the rain.
