The Day After Christmas
All the festivities are now over Oh gosh I’ve got an aching head I need to nurse my bad hangover Ease myself gently from my comfy bed I can’t face breakfast, I feel too darn ill The stench of yesterday’s sprouts fills the air Just a glass of water and a headache pill If I see another brussel sprout I’m sure I’ll swear It’s time to head off to the sales Everything is now half the price I scan all the clothes on the rails That reindeer jumper looks very nice! The streets are full of eager folks They push and shove to grab a deal I queued since midnight someone jokes … And I’ve used my elbows with great zeal! Back home there is a turkey ‘mountain’ It’s being prepared for the dining table I can use the lovely chocolate fountain A Christmas gift from our neighbor Mable Poor old Santa he is now unemployed Because he’s delivered all his gifts Small children are absolutely overjoyed He found his way through the snowdrifts The batteries have run out on Tim’s toy car And he’s already broken off the steering wheel The cat has knocked off the Christmas tree star I stood on a pine needle … it’s lodged in my heel!
