Bridgeless Bound
A lonely path across the hills Calls back to me on nights of woe In hope that its fair scent fulfills More needs than even I would know. A lonely glimmer in the vale Reminds me often of your life, And that I may not ever fail To break despair’s unwieldy knife. I pass my days and wait to hear The charming solace of your voice While hope’s thin clouds are chased by fear: There’s naught in which I can rejoice. The moon has risen and then set More times than I might care to count Since you were forced to pay your debt To death’s unending, bridgeless bound. And yet, I sense, a trace remains Of you, your beauty, and your charm And though, admittedly, this pains, I know it makes life’s winter warm.
