The Independent Woman
Growing in ways as an independent woman, For sure there were things to do that I shouldn't, The days were long the nights were endless, I've struggled hard for my independence, My sole support in the years gone past, Has been my hopes that I find your love that's true, And it clashed with all the things I had going on, Temptation made it hard to tell right from wrong, With my morality as my guide I held on and tried to stay in the light, My dignity and my pride helped me through the darkest hours, Love has two sides, one that fills the busy days, And one that stalks it's prey in the empty night, To triumph over sin and evil I used common sense, It took all of me to cool the fever, standing up on my own two feet, To the cause of love I gave all of me, Love's my reward, this is what I've struggled toward, Fulfillment, joy and bliss, Oh-h sweet independence, Oh the comfort and shelter of his arms, Where I could nurture the calm, how sweet love is to me, Through the bitterness and controversy, It's over and I've one the struggle for my independence, To stay whole I'll use all my God given senses...
