My Xmas Wish List
I decided to write Santa this holiday; sent it care of his workshop, in the Milky Way, for there were many things I wished to get from him, though thought my chances of getting them were slim! It was my hope, he could help straighten the mess the world is in today, but I must confess when I checked through my list, once I had finished, my expectations had somewhat diminished! The list was long, for I thought much was needed, but knowing of his generous spirit, I pleaded that some, if not all, requested gifts, he'd strive to give the world, so that mankind could survive! First was that rare, priceless thing, held beyond worth; hoping he could bring Peace, throughout this earth. This tired old world needs a period of quiet grace, to let festering wounds heal: make it a more placid pace. Once wars come to an end, let Love rule the land: with neighbour giving neighbour, a helping hand, and wouldn't this world be a much better place, if we all wore a friendly smile on our face? I've no wish to bore you with my complete list of requested wants, but there were few I missed, for I hoped somewhere in Santa's sack of toys, he could find gifts, to bring the world lasting joys. When I posted the letter to Santa himself I marked it Personal! I wanted no elf to take it and put it with other mail where it might not be opened. That I couldn't bear! A week or so passed, then I had a reply, in which Dear Santa said he should clarify his position. Though he felt as I did too, his hands were tied, as to how much he could do. While Xmas is known for unselfish goodwill. Many are the requests he's asked to fill. Some ask with passion or a heartbreaking plea, but he can never change, what was meant to be! Man possesses the answer to his own fate, but seldom does enough, until it's too late! There's little desire to do what is known as right: content to leave others to fight the good fight! If however, we could keep the Xmas spirit alive, not only would the world prosper and peace thrive, but most of the ills that beset the world now would soon be history. To this he'd avow! All Nations should change their wasteful, greedy ways: help one another, without thought of "Who pays?" If they'd use their resources to end disease, war and famine. Then soon all tensions would ease. To end, Santa wrote, I'll leave you with this thought: search for those rare gifts, which you so rightly sought: offer those in need, a free and helpful hand, then soon you'll see Love and Peace in every land! Rhymer. December 1st 2016.
