The Tree
The tree once planted at springs first light Knows no difference between day and night It only sees in shades of gold Not a care in the world of growing old The tree knows not the bad Of the harsh winters the others have had No understanding of pain or sorrow Only living to see tomorrow The tree once planted at springs first light Begins to learn to fear the night It sees the world in hues of green Wondering "what does it all mean?" The tree is shedding it's first leaf Not knowing the approaching winters grief Yet to know first pain or sorrow But fearing whats to come tomorrow The tree once planted at springs first light Has seen the old die in the night It sees the world in shades of grey Just trying to live through the day Winters first night has lefts it's mark The tree has learned to harden it's bark Dived too deep into pain and sorrow Not really caring what will come tomorrow
