My Kind of Town
Today seemed very different, As I took in deep breaths, Morning! Someone said as I walked past, It shocked me a bit, wasn’t expecting it, Everybody I passed said! Good morning, How strange! People I didn’t know spoke, I entered the local shop, Someone held out the door, People were chatting and laughing! You go next! As I stood at the back of the queue, Please go first they said! The shop keeper put extra food in my bag, Have a treat on me she said, Everything was so calm and peaceful, They seemed very loving here, Why was it so different for me today? Started to rub my eyes wondered if dreaming, Woke up in a different time zone? Hadn’t seen people like this for such a long time, The world that I knew had become very fast, People didn’t have time for anyone anymore, But was this the only town to change? As I stepped over the border, The noise frightening! A police car with its siren blazed passed, Self-serving supermarkets, People with their hoods up walking fast, The atmosphere cold, I felt very lonely, Only a short distance away, How can two towns be so different? Why had I experienced this? Is there any hope for people? We can never go back, Sadness overcame me, Silently contemplating, Yes! I thought, Good morning! 1/11/2016 For competition sponsor Janis Thompson
