We stood there for a while each in our own pool of innocence, until she said something like, “ I'll let you touch me if you let me touch you!”. I could feel her groping and then exclaim “I can feel it”. I wasn't as successful. I kept saying, “I can't feel anything! Where is it!”. And she kept saying, “That is it! That is it!”. It wasn't until the 4th grade, when Miss Funchion put her arm around me for comfort and encouragement in that bastion of learnatude, P.S. 74 that the first mystery of my life started to dissolve and the pieces slowly began to come together. written October 9, 2016
