Bobby's Dad
My favorite song that I chose was "Cat's in the Cradle". By Harry Chapmin. I hope you enjoy my flight of imagination. See link to the original song at the end of my lyrics. Bobby's Dad When my son was born I wasn't a cool dad I was rather awkward, and wearing purple plaid Yet my heart was full and I was so glad It was one of the best days that I ever had In time, my son learned to walk and he learned to talk He so admired Bobby's dad from down the block I admit I felt jealous, I wanted to be more like him Tall, athletic, cool suave and slim I wish I could be a whole lot more like him Ya man, a whole lot more like him Pop goes the weasel Baby boy would never want to be me Bobby's dad is amazing watch him climb that tree Rock Hudson good looks, athletic and cool Yes, I'm still awkward and often play the fool But I tell you I love my boy, I'm thankful he's mine To him I give everything and gladly share my time Now my boy is in his teens, just as cool as can be Sometimes he's embarrassed to be seen with me Outside our window he climbs the big tree I watch in awe as I sip on my tea He's growing up so perfect, athletic and slim My boy is amazing, I wish I was more like him Ya man, a whole lot more like him Pop goes the weasel Young boy would never want to be me he's so amazing watch him climb that tree Super man good looks athletic and cool Yes I'm still awkward and often play the fool But I tell you I love him, I'm thankful he's mine To him I'd give anything and gladly share my time My boy's twenty five I can't believe how time flew My neighbour says "You're boys nothing like you!" When my son hears him, he says "That ain't cool, my dad's my biggest hero and you dude are a fool!" I feel so proud, he speaks up loud and free Telling Bobby's dad he wants to be more like me Ya man, can you believe it? He wants to be just like me! Pop goes the weasel My son wants to be more like me Even though I ain't amazing, I can't climb a tree Awkward and clumsy yet he thinks I am cool He likes my sense of humour the neighbour's a fool He says "You've always been there dad I'm so glad that you're mine. When we're together, I have a great time!" My heart has grown ten sizes I tell you it's true. I'm happy I'm me I don't need to be you. Danny Devito like stature with my own crooked smile Let me bask in the moment for just a little while My heart is so full, I tell you I'm glad Today's one of the best days, that I've ever had! http://genius.com/Harry-chapin-cats-in-the-cradle-lyrics#note-1014710 Partial lyrics The Cat's in the Cradle My child just arrived the other day He came to the word in the usual way But there where planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad You know I'm gonna be like you." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when But We'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then." My son turned ten just the other day He said "Thanks for the ball, dad; come on lets play Can you teach me to throw?" I said "Not today, I got a lot to do He said, "That's okay." And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when But we'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then."
