Muse On the Loose
MUSE ON THE LOOSE “What’s that?” – a symphony moving, A photograph snapped – a muse on the loose. I must go hunting, set a trap… Many are running, attacking, tracking - So I look in the shadowy bushes, Behind schools of music and dance. I lay a quilted blanket on the ground, Stare above at the stars and stripes. My mind plays tricks, bends, contorts Until nothing is as it seems, like a dream, Perhaps I’ve fallen asleep. A bright star Taps me on the shoulders, “have you stopped looking?” I awake, cold on the shivering ground, When past me darts the muse, ghostlike, So I follow its dot to dot trail, not unlike Morse code, letting the thoughts drift… And somehow make sense. A bright lightbulb Above my head swings, pendulum-like Creating protagonists and monsters upon the wall. With a bold move, my muse steps through The wallboard, melting it with a fiery light. Truly a star of serendipity stepped through - Shakes my hand, presents me with a bag of tricks, Steps back through the paint chips, they glitter. I couldn’t lasso nor tie it up. She is quick as light. If you don’t try, you’ll never find the prize. A fact. 9/4/2016 Contest: Muse On The Loose Sponsored by: John Lawless
