Not To Me
For now, it is no, though there will come a day, when you will be flooded with feelings sublime. I mourn for your future, but what can I say? It's too late when love reckons for a second time. I cherished your beauty, I lauded your mind, I thought of you alone; bound myself with these chains! But when I first learned I was one of a kind, I injected dark poisons deep into my veins. And I learned to sneer at the face that I loved. And I learned to focus on faults within you. And I learned to kill the heart that you shoved— Away ... now it's gone; there's nothing we can do. Forgive me, I am far too weak to endure this weight. When your love next reckons, it reckons too late. 29 August 2016 Written for "When Love Reckons For A Second Time" contest, sponsored by Nayda Ivette Negron
