The Price
They sat down at the table Just like a thousand times before Don't know if they thanked allah for the food Before the bombs blew in the door You could hear that momma screaming About a mile or more Grieving for her baby That was taken By the war . Another family sat down to supper Just like a thousand times before They thanked Jesus for the food When two soldiers knocked upon the door You could hear that momma screaming For at least a mile or more Grieving for her son That was taken By the war . He was a fine boy And it's a shame That he was taken In this way They say he died for freedom But there's no freedom in her pain And I pray That when it's over He will not have died in vain . One momma hates the soldiers That fired the bombs thru her door The other momma Hates the leaders That sent her son off to die in war . The cutest girl you ever saw Upstairs playing with her dolls Mommy cries all night each night Broken from the loss Daddy's never coming home He'll never see his daughter grown He'll never walk her down the aisle She never memorized his smile . Nothing gained from either loss Was it really worth the cost What will it ever take To abolish all the hate Or stop the pawns from being played In the politicians games . They all gathered round the table Like they'd never done before The one called Jesus broke the bread This One Who called Himself the door . Next day they hung Him on a cross Tho no one really knew what for You could hear His momma crying For at least a mile or more Grieving for the Son Who was dying for the world . He was a fine Son And took the shame When he was crucified that day They say he died for freedom And our freedom now is gained He bore the grief of every momma Carried the sorrow of their pain And I can only pray that when it's all said and done He will not have died in vain Somehow I know He loves all mommas just the same Paid the price for all their freedom Only He can heal the pain
