A Day of Clarity
Longing for an absence of thought deep in the night. . . sleep became my godsend in the weeks since I'd received the words, "You have cancer." I never had felt sick, and the surgery last year went well! But then they did a test right after surgery which showed I was at risk for cancer to return to me. They suggested I also have chemotherapy before my radiation. I agonized on what to do, for I could not accept the fact my body would be poisoned for prevention’s sake only. I prayed on my knees to God, "What should I do?" Two days before the port would be put inside my chest, the answer came to me as if from God. A neighbor who it turns out was a doctor familiar with research into cancer led me to others who helped me forge the path that I would ultimately take. I would still do radiation, but there were other things to try in case more cancer cells remained inside me. I was led to talk to other doctors and to a renowned scientist who gave me other options. I never will forgot that Saturday I canceled my appointment with the surgeon and forged my own new path. It was a day of clarity for me.
