Orange Crescent
husband was at the wheel that night driving back home from vacation I was trying hard to be awake legs folded on the passenger seat what was that— a half broken traffic light? I rubbed my eyes and blinked ten times but it wasn't a dream it sat resting on the overhead wires an orange crescent hanging low aligned with the traffic lights so low, I could reach my hand out the moon roof and grab it so orange, it looked like a piece of a setting sun so perfect an arc like a kid had drawn a circle with a geometry compass and erased the rest it changed shades orange to red played peekaboo tirelessly hiding behind trees and appearing again could not sleep a wink again had to be pulled out of the car when we reached home sorry to end our game that night Written ob 08/12/2016 Contest: Wordscapes by John Hamilton
