Rummaging Through Trash
My finger felt unusually light and unconstrained free of the weight and choke of the gold ring Did it slip off my finger or I hid it in a nook beyond my reach Trying to recollect while fervently opening drawers, undressing bed and pillows I do slip it out when kneading the dough Might have shoved it in trash with onion peels I'm elbow deep in- smelly chicken bones dripping eggshells punctured tea bags rotten spinach My eyes focus as my mind wanders— dreams, principles, smiles, moments, opportunities, friends I have allowed myself to lose without any forage And here madly rummaging for a piece of gold! Time to sift through mental garbage. ( I found it nestled in a tiny bowl in the kitchen) Written on 07/18/2016 Contest:Garbage by Anthony Slausen
