Death and Dying In Dallas
Death and Dying in Dallas Death and dying in Dallas seems to have all started with the death of President Kennedy. The following is all true and actually, recently happened in my life. The essay was written to describe what happened as a prelude to my poem I wrote that follows. We were having our July St. James Episcopal Church Board of Vestry meeting. I am a member and was there attending. Father Dave Davis has asked me to give the closing prayer. I proceeded to do so. At the end I asked for God's help regarding the families of the now deceased Dallas Police Officers. After my prayer was over, Father Dave said that I should have included the lives of all transponders in it who daily place their lives in jeopardy. That made complete sense to me. The following Sunday, July 17th Ninth Sunday of Pentecost the Gospel and Sermon were about Mary and Martha and how one was a doer and the other a thinker and worshipper. You could see what Martha was doing but only Jesus saw and knew what Mary was doing. It is often hard to see what faithful worshippers are doing. While Father Dave was talking about all of the transponders, several police officers were being killed and injured in Baton Rogue. It could have been motivated by revenge but we will never know exactly. You are almost afraid to go to bed at night for fear of what might happen tomorrow. Based on all of the things that have recently happened, I have written the following poem inspired by God for Father Dave and the local newspaper. Here goes. Death and Dying in Dallas There is no reason we should be mad Good things to lives God tries to add When Him we will listen to and hear All worry and strife does disappear. In service Father Dave said transponder Those who left and are now up yonder In God's hands safe, sane and secure Discomfort on earth they did endure. A thought came to me in Vestry Meeting Mentioned in my prayer in final greeting Think about police officers dying in Dallas No longer patrolling causing a paralysis. Hands of time are not moving anymore For dead police officers we love and adore Gone to heaven has their each spirit Our thoughts about them will never quit.
