Gone Forever
It was twilight and long dark shadows were creeping, The sky was an angry white and snow was falling; My love would not be home, he was gone forever. It snowed the day we buried my dear sweet lover, I didn't feel the wet flakes or the biting weather; Wind, swirled my hair and it was my cloak of sorrow. At his grave, I was watching a small brown sparrow, I heard sobbing- oh I would come back tomorrow; I felt detached A P A R T and in another place. Sighed and so my beloved mother touched my face, The end came- and everyone I had to embrace; The sound of footsteps leaving, then it was so still. Angels were carved into his stone set on a hill, Tears filled my brown eyes and I did not feel the chill; Dad took my hand and he whispered, be brave my girl. I touched my neck and his gift, an ivory pearl, The cold wind blew loudly, oh the swirl, twirl and whirl; I picked up a red rose, then turned away weeping. My love would not be home, he was gone forever, Wind swirled my hair and it was my cloak of sorrow; I felt detached A P A R T and in another place, The sounds of footsteps leaving, then it was so still. Dad took my hand and whispered, be brave my girl, I picked up a red rose, then turned away weeping. ______________________________ July 5, 2016 Poetry/Verse/Gone Forever Copyright Protected, ID 16-806-493-0 All Rights Reserved.
