The Red Stain
I’ve held secrets beyond my redemption, Laughter towards my crying soul’s attempt, If only my wisdom walked up to strengthen, Maybe my heart’s black would die in contempt. For as long as my mind’s eye can remember, I’ve felt remorse between right and wrong, The dreariness all started last September, When you left and I wrote that sad song. The song sang melodies of sorrow and woe, Tunes into darkness how I knew you’d leave, Too much heartache to freeze in our snow, As I always wore my heart on my torn sleeve. Memoirs into nights we fell in deep swoon, Two lovers under the sheets feeling romance, The mornings of sleeping in until almost noon, If only you would give me one more chance. Discussions in our family about our lamented loss, My mamma crying for the children left behind, I am left all alone carrying the miserable cross, And my melancholy seems comfortably confined. From now on I need to be careful who I trust, Seeds blow in the wind for my grief to remain, Find a new love free from unhappiness and lust, As I carry on my heart a distressful red stain.
