A Labyrinth of Lies
When my sister died, grandma said, it would be okay, She lied, it was never okay again in my life, ever again; And as each person I loved died, she said the same thing, Then, when she died, no one ever said that to me ever again. Mom died and people said she was in a better place, And she is tending God's garden, really, lies, lies, lies; My mother is at Notre Dame Cemetery in a deep grave, Her bones rotting, don't tell me sweet lies to make it better. When I told my boyfriend Henri that I was going blind, He could not wait to leave and told me sweet little lies; Lies, lies, lies, he did not wait for further testing to happen, Seems the progression is slow, not until I am an old, old lady. I have had many friends in this tangled path of mine, And many- who I thought were true blue and forever; But, they were snakes striking out at my trusting heart, Then, I told sweet little lies when they called me on the phone. But the worst is when someone I respect and trust, Says let me tell you the truth, oh why could you not lie; Tell me a sweet little lie, why did you have to hurt me so, One little lie is all that was needed, not a dagger to my heart. Lies, lies, lies, sweet little lies, swirling and spinning, What is truth, what is a lie, God has promised me much; A paradise, a mansion with many rooms, and eternal eternity, Well, I will have to wait- were these sweet little lies or the truth. _________________________ June 24, 2016 Poetry/Narrative/A Labyrinth Of Lies Copyright Protected, ID 16-803-886-0 All Rights Reserved.
