June
Tread softly, spoke the elder man, and I puzzled through the day, at why he would send such advice—so chilling—here this way. For isn’t the counsel of the sun, much more to the tune, of flashy words of romance, and hot nights here in June? Such is the way of youth, you know, though I am not quite sure: how hearts can twine together, then split—weren’t they secure? The elder man knows that my age, deceives the common eye. He sees into my soul, the sage, and thus he knows the I, cannot dance and kiss someone, whom I hardly know. I could never take someone, unless I lay down low. Unless I truly care for them, unless they are my dream, unless I am the world to them, unless love is supreme, then all of it’s a lie! It’s all a waste of time. All of it’s a pleasure-game that fools play in their prime. The man knows that within this life, I would lose myself. He knows that I risk far more than happiness and health. He knows that I am better off standing my own ground. Until I find one like myself, and be forever bound! 23 June 2016
