An Angel
An Angel? It was just for a brief time, but there she was, A short and dark Indian featured woman She sought me out; she talked to me, And I was taken in. For a few weeks, or a month or two Each day was a “talking” lunch, My life was in a shambles, And I treasured her. Her husband had thrown her out, She fell in love with a priest, She left her hometown, married a preacher, I should have caught on. Then it was time for her to leave, Her family moved ahead of her, She gave me two of her suits, tho I was twice as large as her. She said they would fit, She was hard to refuse, I needed the “career” suits, I couldn’t choose. She told me not to expect a letter, She liked to cut all ties, I looked at her strangely, Into the blue of her Indian-like eyes. The suits that were twice too small, Fit my frame to perfection, She had given her heart’s wisdom to me, And seemed to fly away. It was just for a brief time, but there she was, I now believe in angels, Just because. Two suits fit my frame.
