I Dreamed a Dream
Recitation Poetry Contest Sponsor: Team PoetrySoup I dreamed a dream and I mourned you once again, I woke up in tears as I turned and saw your picture, I try to move on with my life, but I only pretend, For your silver chain has become a permanent fixture. I woke up in tears as I turned and saw your picture, I thought, “how can my beloved husband be gone?”, For your silver chain has become a permanent fixture, As I tune the radio station I hear our wedding song. I thought, “how can my beloved husband be gone?”, Seems like yesterday we just got the news of death, As I tune the radio station I hear our wedding song, My regret is not being with you during your last breath. Seems like yesterday we just got the news of death, So many poor souls in the world with this disease, My regret is not being with you during your last breath, For nothing in this world can put my sorrow at ease. So many poor souls in the world with this disease, If only there was a cure to protect my lover’s dear life, For nothing in this world can put my sorrow at ease, I thought that forever I would be your beloved wife. If only there was a cure to protect my lover’s dear life, We’d see our grandchildren grow to be young adults, I thought that forever I would be your beloved wife, I keep telling myself deep down it’s not my fault. We’d see our grandchildren grow to be young adults, I try to move on with my life, but I only pretend, I keep telling myself deep down it’s not my fault, I dreamed a dream and I mourned you once again.
