Memorial Day
Memorial Day We defended the principles upon which we were founded. Some of us were deeply scared and gravely wounded. We all stood tall and fought for our “Country tis of thee”. Some were fortunate enough and escaped free of injury. We were men and women of many creeds, cultures, and stripes. Some died as ‘one people’; red, yellow, brown, black, and white. We were there for you and the world, trying to make things right. We remembered you, as you tossed, turned, and cried in the night. From the depths of our hearts, we speak with self respect and without shame; some speak with wounds from head to toe; and others with a lifetime of pain. And yes, though without sound, some speak from our graves near and far. Conflicts and wars have been many, but we held high the flag of stars. So, this Memorial Day, 2016, we, the proud and the free American soldiers simply say, “thank you for remembering us”. 05292016 cj PS I was never a soldier; but I know that no one wants to be forgotten. This was written as a way of identifying with active members of the military, veterans, and deceased soldiers. I am eternally grateful to them and to God. God bless America.
