Since We Parted
The wind sweeps the clouds, leaving scorching rays.  The sun blazes and hides his face; the star winks, smiles  away his age. But the moon, in regal float, bares her  bumps and crags, unruffled by sun's piercing glare.  Over half a century since we met; over four decades  when we parted, the wind of joy and frown   has grated on the faces, our youthful pride,  furrowed contours on the once plane land.  I could never have thought time would leave a trail till I squinted at a face, your post on Facebook. With dimming eyes, I searched for a trace of former years, but found lines and graceful gray. How I wish time revealed his stake in my youth!  I would have fought, be a diamond through to dusk;  and set like summer sun decked with golden rays.  Time etched the first line the day I was born and set my life in entropic flux. But death!   Oh, it works behind the scene—bold, assaulting— connives with time, wears down what's dear in me.  Time! Oh time! My friend or foe! © 2016 By Celestine S. Ikwuamaesi
