The Mad World
That night, I looked at the glorious moon And chose, on the spur of the moment To leave all that I was accustomed to I would go, there, wherever my feet took me I set out, with only a torchlight in my hand And walked, walked down the road Hoping to find answers to that which troubles me Answers to give a meaning to life I walked on till I was all worn and tired I walked on till I left the asphalt and felt the grass beneath my feet Then, exhausted, I fell asleep Only to wake up at dawn, to find myself in a queer place I was at the foot of a mountain It was colored in a dull black tone And it had, on its wall, two eyes, a nose and a mouth I sat up, looked all around me in fear and gulped What have I done, where am I Shall I return home safe Why, I had let myself be guided by the moon's majestic glare And committed a blunder Now, I hardly knew where I was Now, I hardly knew if I was even on Earth, then The mountain spoke, calm down, it said Calm down and look at me I will not hurt you I only wish to answer your questions Who are you, I whimpered shrilly I am the Mountain of Madness, it said I am the border guarding the entrance and the exit of Earth Whoever falls from the skies come to me And I guide them on their path But rare are those who do come to me, to reach the other realm Speak, I want to hear you What brought you here I took a deep breath And chose to bare my soul I spoke thus I am in love with the mystery of Earth I have lived my life with my faith strong in my heart I submitted to my fate I trusted the divine love I am in love with our Maker I am searching for Him I was enamored by the beauty of the moon And I walked till I reached you Can you let me through your gates? Of course, said the mountain I have never met a being such as you See, the rest of this world do be all mad They all do believe that this life does be all That this life does be real even They care not for the skies They care not for the Maker They all do bask in madness But they believe themselves to be so sane They do believe what this world and its temporal state want them to see I shall let you through The Maker does be a difficult one to reach You shall have to go on your way The other realms do be vast But if your love does be true You shall attain your means For in this world of madness I see you as the one with the clear insight! Go, do go on your way!
