Even the Angels Wept
Even the angels wept A mother touched his cherub cheek Trying to feel his heart beat weak Crying softly as he slept Oh and how the angles wept The father watched each monitors peak Mesmerized in electronic mystique But the rise and fall were all inept And again the angels wept Grandma waiting for the babe to peek Too heartbroken to even speak Golden curls on his forehead swept I tell you now, the angles wept A nurse comes in for an IV tweak, She tells the room, the chance is bleak. But still the family, hope they kept Wishing the angles had not wept The father freezes, and the mother shrieks It said the words no one could speak Not a breath could they detect In heaven, Oh! The angels wept A tiny coffin made of teak Ebony satin, soft and sleek For his body, to protect And even the angels wept
