A Child Invisible
This is about a little girl invisible, oh I should tell- she is me, I would never look anyone in the eye and my head was down; For awhile, I refused to speak but I heard everything that was said, My parents were grieving the death of my sister- so I drifted. No one seemed to notice me- I was quite invisible and unseen, Of course, they provided everything a child should have and more; What I really wanted was a kiss but that never comes to invisible girls, Everyday I went to the attic- made up stories about being loved. Never, did anyone come looking for me- I guess out of sight worked, I knew the times for meals and would come, no one spoke; Moving the food around made it looked like I ate, then I would leave, They did not say a word, my parents that is- not even to each other. Time ticks slowly for the invisible- our screams are silent and unheard, I am drowning in sorrow, Mommy and Daddy, can you not see me; The day of the burial came and they sent me away with Grannie to stay, I would often walk in the woods and sit by a stream- just thinking. If I could be more invisible, I wished it- to just be somewhere else, My best friends were my cat and my dolls and books on nature; At school I made myself invisible, I never spoke, I was really struggling, One day, the teacher sent a note home saying- your child needs help. __________________________________ April 27, 2016 Poetry/Narrative/A Child Invisible Copyright Protected, ID 16-783-035-0 All Rights Reserved.
