She looked so delicate, Surrounded by the gentle glow. The smile on her face, So peaceful. Her eyes sparkled As she read her endless stories. Oblivious, to the black surrounding her. Watching from the shadows for as long as I can remember, I stood guard. Taking solace in her safety. I fought so hard to keep the darkness out. Desperately willing her to stay inside. To stay safe, and unmarred by the harshness of the world. But I now realize, It was a battle I was never going to win. She wasn't just some little girl. She was me. And I had to let her go.
